Marini Hints at Imminent MotoGP Future Announcement This British GP Weekend

Luca MariniPlayer·Luca Marini, currently competing with the factory HondaTeam·Honda team, has suggested that an announcement regarding his future in MotoGPCompetition·MotoGP could be made during the British Grand PrixCompetition·British Grand Prix weekend. His current contract with HondaTeam·Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is slated to conclude at the end of the 2026 season, marking the end of his time with the Japanese manufacturer.

Marini joined HondaTeam·Honda from VR46 DucatiTeam·VR46 Ducati at the close of the 2023 season. However, HondaTeam·Honda has already outlined its rider lineup for 2027, securing Fabio QuartararoPlayer·Fabio Quartararo and considering either David AlonsoPlayer·David Alonso or Diogo MoreiraPlayer·Diogo Moreira. With Joan MirPlayer·Joan Mir, Marini's current teammate, confirmed to move to Gresini DucatiTeam·Gresini Ducati, and Johann ZarcoPlayer·Johann Zarco holding a contract until the end of 2027, there will be no available seats for either Marini or Mir at HondaTeam·Honda beyond the current season.

The Italian rider's name has been consistently linked with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team. Reports from Sky Italia suggest that Marini has already agreed to a two-year deal with Tech3 KTMTeam·Tech3 KTM, with Moto2 star Sena AgiusPlayer·Sena Agius potentially joining him. While nothing has been officially confirmed, Marini's recent comments indicate that a resolution is near.

"I think maybe this weekend there will be some announcement. Everything can be clarified this weekend – at the moment I don't know for sure. But we will see," stated Luca Marini ahead of the British Grand Prix. He further expressed his satisfaction with the situation, adding, "Now is not the moment to talk about it, but for sure I am happy. Of course, MotoGP is everyone's dream, so to be here is fantastic and I feel I can still achieve many things."

Marini has demonstrated notable progress during his time with HondaTeam·Honda. In the midst of the 2025 season, he held 15th place in the overall standings, positioning him as the second-highest performing HondaTeam·Honda rider with 52 points, surpassing Joan MirPlayer·Joan Mir's 32 points. Despite missing three races in 2025 due to an injury sustained during testing for the Suzuka 8-hour race, his performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix that year, where he finished fourth in the sprint and fifth in the main race, marked a significant highlight with HondaTeam·Honda.
