Lilepo Bids Farewell to Kaizer Chiefs After Al Ahly Benghazi Transfer

Glody Lilepo, the Congolese winger, has officially concluded his 18-month tenure with Kaizer ChiefsTeam·Kaizer Chiefs, sealing a move to Libyan powerhouse Al Ahly Benghazi. The transfer, confirmed on August 4, 2026, sees Lilepo depart Naturena after a significant contribution to the South African club.

Lilepo's departure follows persistent reports of him being unsettled in Johannesburg, despite a productive spell with the Amakhosi. Kaizer ChiefsTeam·Kaizer Chiefs reportedly secured a profit from the transfer, having initially signed Lilepo from French side Valenciennes FC in January 2025 for approximately R8.2 million ($500,000) and selling him for over R11 million ($700,000). Interest from Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat and Raja Club Athletic was also noted before the finalisation of his move to Benghazi.

During the 2025/26 campaign, Lilepo proved to be a vital asset for Kaizer ChiefsTeam·Kaizer Chiefs, registering nine goals and providing four assists across all competitions. He finished as the club's second-highest scorer, trailing only Wandile DubaPlayer·Wandile Duba. Across his entire 18-month period with the club, Lilepo made 56 appearances, scoring 15 goals and contributing 5 assists. His impact was further recognised with a nomination for the PSL Goal of the Season award in his final full campaign.

Lilepo was also an integral part of the squad that ended Kaizer ChiefsTeam·Kaizer Chiefs' decade-long wait for major silverware, securing the Nedbank CupCompetition·Nedbank Cup trophy. This achievement contributed to the club's qualification for the CAF Confederation CupCompetition·CAF Confederation Cup in two consecutive seasons.
