AFC Leopards Captain Kayci Odhiambo Promises Success to Eager Fans

AFC Leopards' new captain, Kayci OdhiamboPlayer·Kayci Odhiambo, has delivered a powerful message of intent to the club's dedicated fanbase, promising a new era of success. Odhiambo, who recently took over the armband, stated confidently that "Something is cooking" for the upcoming season, a declaration that resonates deeply with supporters eager for silverware.

This ambitious outlook follows a notable performance in the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League season, where AFC Leopards secured a second-place finish. The team accumulated 64 points from 34 matches, placing them five points behind champions Gor Mahia, who finished with 69 points. This marked a significant improvement for the club, especially when compared to their 2024/25 campaign, where they trailed champions Kenya Police FC by a substantial 14 points.

Despite their strong challenge, the Leopards ultimately fell short of clinching the title. Head coach Fred Ambani attributed this outcome to inconsistency in front of goal and wasteful finishing during crucial moments. The team scored 44 goals and conceded 28 throughout the 2025/26 season, demonstrating a solid defensive foundation but highlighting areas for offensive refinement. Their home form, however, was exceptional, leading the league's home standings with 37 points from 17 games.

The objective for the 2026/27 season is unequivocally clear: to secure the league title. Club CEO Ronald Namai has publicly affirmed this ambition, acknowledging that the team fell short of their internal target of 76 points last season. The pursuit of the championship will demand remarkable consistency and a squad capable of matching or surpassing the quality of rivals like Gor Mahia.

Odhiambo, who replaced VictorPlayer·Victor Omune as captain, expressed his enthusiasm for the team's prospects and the integration of new talent. "Something is cooking for the new season. The new players we have welcomed them well and most of them are senior players so they know how to bond quickly and have easily settled in," Odhiambo stated, as reported by Pulse Sports Kenya. He also highlighted the successful assimilation of foreign players, noting their improved communication and contributions in pre-season friendlies.

Viewing the pressure of last season's second-place finish as a catalyst, Odhiambo added, "It is so good we finished second last season and it is good as a player to play under pressure because once you finish second, it is the worst you can achieve for the club. It is good pressure to the team and we will take it positively and we will do even better. The mood in camp is top including players and technical bench." Coach Fred Ambani has also endorsed the club's recent transfer activities, which have seen the arrival of several key players.
